Water & Wastewater

Pump
The Problem
Clogging in pumps due to the high content of Struvite (aka MAP – magnesium-ammonia-phosphate) in wastewater. MAP is an alkali with PH9 so it is a corrosive agent as well.
The Solution
Thorough removing of clogged material followed by salt removal washing process and blasting to achieve the right cleanliness and roughness of the surface. Belzona 1341 Supermetalglide was applied in 2 layers according to the instruction for use. The pump came back for re-coating after 2 years continuous service. Belzona 1341 is in a good condition except some damages due to the mechanical cleaning by operators. The plant saves a lot of money and downtime as they need only 3 days in every other year to re-coat the pump.

Pump Casings
The Problem
The wear ring disintegrated allowing severe damage to the pump casing. Their need was to repair the casing and find a way to bind the new wear ring in place. If this could not be done a new casing would have to be ordered.
The Solution
The pump casing was put back into service within a matter of days (within their shutdown period) instead of purchasing a new casing. Repairs costing a few thousand dollars in Belzona were better than a 6 week delay and 10s of thousands of dollars for a new casing. It has been 19 months and the pump is still in service and running well.

Piping
The Problem
The pipe was corroded so badly that the pitting was causing pin holes in the substrate.
The Solution
Belzona 1121 was used to rebuild the pitting. Belzona 5811 was used to coat the internal of the pipe. The cost of the project was $70,000 USD and required a week of downtime for the plant to rebuild the pipe and coat. The Belzona was a much better alternative to the to the cost of over a million dollars to dig the pipe up and replace it with two months of downtime.
